Davide gets down to business in first working day as gov
ON his first day in office, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III ordered Capitol employees to report early and start working at exactly 8 a.m.
Davide led the flag raising ceremony at the Capitol grounds. He carried the flag as he walked in the middle of the Capitol employees towards the flag pole.
He later declared that the next flag raising would start at 7:45 a.m. so that transactions at the Capitol will start at exactly 8 a.m.
In his inaugural speech before the newly elected Cebu Provincial Board members, department heads and other officials, Davide asked them to craft an Investment Code that would entice businessmen to invest in the province.
He also wants the board to pass legislation that would revitalize the farmer scientist training program. Davide said he wants to prioritize disaster risk reduction in his administration.
All board members were present including Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero, former Cebu City councilor Raul Alcoseba, and Christopher Baricuatro.
The board passed a resolution authorizing Acting Provincial Treasurer Yolanda Cabando to sign and release checks in behalf of the Capitol.
Davide appointed lawyers Orvi Ortega as Provincial Legal Officer and Mark Tolentino as provincial administrator and designated former Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) public relations manager Ethel Natera as Provincial Information Officer.
Davide ordered Ortega to look into and resolve the issue of ownership in the Fuente Osmena Circle between the province and Cebu City as pursued by former governor Gwendolyn Garcia. The case is now pending in court.
